Crazy Horse Memorial

Crazy Horse Memorial

Recently I was able to visit the Crazy Horse Memorial. I have to admit that I was in complete awe. If the sheer size of the Memorial is testimony to the accomplishments of Crazy Horse, mere mortals should stand still and gaze at the life of a true hero! I am grateful that I was able to see it in my lifetime. This Memorial has been in progress for over 60 years.

Sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski was asked by Lakota Chief Henry Standing Bear to create the Memorial. The "Memorial's mission is to honor the culture, tradition and living heritage of North American Indians." While visiting the Museum at the Crazy Horse Memorial, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie that was viewed by all visitors. It depicted the life of Ziolkowski and his family. The struggles and dedication of Ziolkowski and his family is testament to how I wish all American families lived their lives.

One of the most amazing bits of information that I walked away from the film was the fact that this project is funded from donations (any amount is greatly appreciated) and entrance fees only. This is a non-profit project that continues, even after the death of Sculptor Ziolkowski, due to the dedication of his family. I applaud  the accomplishments of the Ziolkowski Family! You are an inspiration to us all.

If you have the opportunity to visit the Crazy Horse Memorial, I recommend it. The Ziolkowski family and the project that they have dedicated their lives to develop has encouraged me to finish the many projects that I have put on the back burner. Dedication is the effort put into a project not the time spent to accomplish the task.
